I've been a long-time Vercel user. It's where I host this blog, as well as the large majority of my other projects, like hypothesis.sh. One thing I was really missing was a native app for iPhone and iPad that not only allowed me to look up my deployments and analytics, but also view live deployment statuses and other realtime metrics.

Today, after a few months of work, I'm happy to announce that I solved my own problem (and hopefully one of yours too!), and launched Scalene for iOS and iPad!

Scalene for Vercel

Scalene has a bunch of features for viewing analytics and usage across your projects, laid out to be glanceable whether you have one or many.

There is also deep integration with iOS to keep you informed (my favorite part): Live activities and push notifications for every deployment, homescreen widgets with deployment status, traffic analytics, and performance insights, as well as a lockscreen widget!

These live activities and push notifications work through a relay. When you first connect the app, a webhook is installed into your account, secured with a token, pointing at the Scalene relay, and any additional users or devices that connect to the same account or team share the single webhook. The relay handles fanning out push notifications and live activities to authenticated devices.

Scalene lets your view each build log, and manage redeploying and promoting builds. Notifications can be configured on a per-project basis depending on your desire, and are device-specific, so one device can be noisier than another. There's even an Apple Watch companion too!

The app is built for iPad from the start, and I have in-progress a dedicated Mac app. In the meantime, the iPad app running on Apple Silicon Macs works quite well.

I have an Android version in development as well that I expect will hit the Play Store in the coming weeks. I've been testing it on my Pixel 11 for the past week or so and it's been working really nicely, though the integration surfaces are a little different than iOS.

Pricing

In the US, I have the app priced at $6.99, with a launch week discount down to $2.99. Nobody needs another subscription, but I've put a lot of time into this project, and do have some ongoing costs with the push notification relay. I think that a one-time, upfront cost is a good balance here.

But don't worry! As a longtime reader of my blog, you have a chance to get it for free! Here are 5 redemption codes that the first 5 people can use:

Please feel free to take one if you'll use the app, and especially if you'd be willing to provide feedback! I'd love to hear how you're using it and how well it works at support@scalene.app. And if by the time you read this they're all taken, try to snag it at a discounted price before it goes back to full!

Take a look at scalene.app for the full feature set and for more information about how it works!
